The TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) is the official Korean language proficiency examination administered by NIIED under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea — and one of the most common requirements for non-Koreans who wish to study or work in South Korea.
Score 80–139 / 200. Understanding and using basic Korean expressions in everyday situations.
Score 140–200 / 200. Understanding simple conversations and expressing basic opinions in Korean.
Score 120–149 / 300. Using Korean effectively for social interactions and workplace communication.
Score 150–189 / 300. Participating confidently in basic academic and professional discussions.
Score 190–229 / 300. Advanced proficiency — fluent professional communication comparable to native speakers.
Score 230–300 / 300. Near-native proficiency, including complex academic texts and formal writing.

Examination Structure and Format
TOPIK I and TOPIK II differ in sections, duration and maximum score — here is the complete format.
Listening and Reading sections, all multiple-choice. Duration: 100 minutes total. Maximum score: 200 points.
Listening, Writing and Reading. The Writing section includes 2 short-answer and 2 essay questions. Duration: 180 minutes. Maximum score: 300 points.
First cohort: 17 students achieved TOPIK I Level 2, 12 achieved TOPIK II Level 3, and 4 achieved TOPIK II Level 4.
